Burkey Construction Co. was the construction manager for Phase I of The Highlands at Wyomissing, a continuing care retirement community. The project included a central core building with a personal care wing, skilled nursing wing, and residential apartments.
The core building included the main lobby to the facility and administrative offices, lounge, multi-purpose rooms, several dining rooms as well as private dining rooms for parties, and a patio lounge just outside the dining areas. A full service commercial kitchen is located adjacent to the dining areas. Beauty/barber shops, a gift shop, and a bank are also located in the core building.
The nursing wings consisted of 60 skilled nursing beds and 40 personal care units. As a continuing care nursing facility, the health care wings were subject to the Pennsylvania Department of Health regulations.
Each of the 259 residential apartments included pre-wired cable television, fully equipped kitchens, sound insulation between apartments, and private patio or balcony.
The original project schedule was a 22-month duration, however, it was successfully completed four months early.
